Phebe Davidson

Phebe Davidson is the author of several collections of poems, among them Milk and Brittle Bone, A Note on Demographics, Song Dog, and Back to Square One: New & Selected Poems. Recently retired from what seems, in retrospect, to have been several lifetimes of teaching and writing in a university setting, she describes retirement as the ultimate desideratum, the place and time she most loves being in. Founding editor of Palanquin Press and a staff writer for The Asheville Poetry Review, she lives in Westminster, SC with her husband Steve and their cat Fripp.

"Spiritual descendent of the Brothers Grimm, Davidson’s dark imagination plunges the reader into familiar but strangely elaborated worlds where our hearts still thump with the terror/pleasure of great storytelling. Rivaling Anne Sexton’s Transformations in re-visioning fairy tales and folk tales, Davidson’s renditions of the characters’ voices are psychologically astute, perfectly chilling, exactly right."

- Susan Ludvigson

"Phebe Davidson pierces our most primal tales with an unflinching eye. These are poems that go bump in the night. You will never forget them."

- Carolyn Elkins
